Aquarium Pebbles and Decorative Stones for Fish Tanks
Aquarium pebbles are small, smooth-surfaced decorative stones used as substrate and decoration in fish tanks, terrariums and indoor water bowls. Because anything placed in a closed water system affects that system, we confirm suitability for aquarium use per enquiry rather than making blanket safety claims.
What matters in an aquarium is the stone's surface and how it behaves in water. Pebbles need smooth edges so fish are not injured and so the substrate can be cleaned without trapping waste, and the stone should not shift the tank's water chemistry in ways your setup cannot handle. Some natural stones are chemically inert in water; others are not.
So: tell us it is for an aquarium when you enquire. We will tell you what we can supply for that use and what we cannot. We will not sell you stone for a tank on the basis of a claim we have not verified.
Whatever stone you use, rinse it thoroughly in clean water before it goes into a tank to remove transport dust.

Buying guide
- State clearly that the stone is for an aquarium so suitability can be confirmed before dispatch.
- Choose smooth, rounded pebbles only — angular chips can injure fish and trap waste.
- Rinse thoroughly in clean water before adding to any tank.
- Smaller grades suit planted tanks; larger pebbles suit decorative accents and bare-bottom setups.
Where aquarium pebbles are used
Aquarium Pebbles — questions we are asked
- Are your pebbles safe for fish tanks?
- Suitability depends on the specific stone. Mention aquarium use in your enquiry and we will confirm what we can supply for that purpose — we do not make blanket safety claims across the whole range.
- How should I clean aquarium pebbles before use?
- Rinse them in clean running water until the water runs clear, agitating them by hand to release dust. Do not use soap or detergent.
- What size pebbles work best in an aquarium?
- Finer grades around 3–8 mm are commonly used as substrate in planted tanks; 10–20 mm pebbles are used more for decorative layering. Your tank setup and fish species drive the choice.
