Swimming Pool Pebbles and Poolside Landscaping Stones

Pebbles are used around swimming pools to soften the hard edge of the deck, fill planting beds and border strips, and finish the transition between paving and garden. They are a landscaping material for the pool surround — not a substitute for engineered pool decking or an in-pool lining.

What pebbles do in this application

Around a pool, decorative stone typically goes into three places: the planting beds that ring the deck, a border strip between paving and lawn or wall, and feature areas such as an outdoor shower base or a water spout.

Larger, rounded grades are preferred close to the deck because they are less likely to be carried onto the paving on wet feet — loose fine stone on a pool deck is a slipping hazard and a nuisance for the pool filter.

Colour choice is usually driven by the paving. White and light stone against blue water and pale stone decking reads bright and resort-like; grey and black give a sharper, contemporary look; mixed and river tones suit natural or lagoon-style pools.

Sizes, colours and finishes to consider

  • Keep loose stone out of the pool. Set beds slightly below deck level and use a physical edge so stone does not migrate onto walking surfaces or into the water.
  • Use a larger grade (roughly 20–40 mm) near the deck edge and finer grades only in enclosed beds further away.
  • Dark stone in direct sun gets hot underfoot. Around a pool where people walk barefoot, keep dark pebbles in beds rather than on walked surfaces.
  • Ask us before assuming any specific slip resistance or pool-chemical resistance — we confirm suitability for your intended use per enquiry rather than publish blanket performance claims.
  • Rinse the stone on site after laying so pool-area dust does not spread.

Quantity depends on the area and the depth you choose — decorative cover is commonly laid around 40–50 mm deep. Send your measurements and we will confirm the quantity.

Maintenance

  • Rake and hose the beds occasionally; light-coloured stone shows dust the fastest.
  • Skim any stray pebbles off the deck before they reach the pool and the filter.
  • Top up beds every couple of years where stone has been displaced by cleaning and foot traffic.

Availability and delivery

Retail quantities and bulk orders are both supplied for this application. Material is dispatched from the Kishangarh (Ajmer) stone hub in Rajasthan with pan-India delivery; dispatch method and timelines are confirmed against the specific order and destination. Pricing is quoted per enquiry.

Swimming Pool & Poolside — questions we are asked

Which pebbles are best around a swimming pool?
Larger rounded grades around 20–40 mm in white, grey or river tones are the usual choice for pool surrounds — they stay put, look clean against paving and are less likely to be carried into the pool than fine stone.
Are pebbles slippery around a pool?
Loose stone on a smooth wet deck is a hazard, which is why pebbles belong in beds and borders rather than on the walking surface. For specific slip-resistance requirements, discuss the application with us before ordering.
Can pebbles go inside the pool?
We supply pebbles for pool-surround landscaping. Anything going inside a pool structure should be specified with your pool contractor — do not assume a decorative landscaping stone is an in-pool product.
How much stone will a pool surround need?
Measure the bed areas and decide on depth (decorative cover is commonly around 40–50 mm). Send those measurements and we will help work out the quantity and quote it.
